A new face has started at the Taylor Press this week, as Hunter Dworaczyk joins the staff as a general assignment reporter.
Dworaczyk, originally from Needville, is welltraveled and makes his way to Taylor after finishing his college studies. He began at Wharton County Junior College and earned his associate’s in general studies before transferring to the University of Texas at Austin to earn his bachelor’s degree in journalism.
He found his calling as a journalist while in high school and it has stuck with him ever since.
“I took an introductory journalism class as a high school freshman mainly because my twin brother and best friend were also taking it,” Dworaczyk said. “I genuinely thought it was going to sort of be a blowoff class but I thoroughly enjoyed it. At the end of the year, my teacher recommended I join the newspaper staff across the hall, which pained her because she ran the yearbook.”
Dworaczyk has experience writing for his high school paper the Blue Jay Chatter, the Daily Texan and the Wharton Journal-Spectator. He also interned at Sports Illustrated.
“I have always been someone who enjoys telling stories,” he said. “I was a somewhat shy kid on the school playground back in my early years but felt confident about talking whenever I had something I knew others would find interesting.”
He is thrilled to be in Taylor with the newspaper and is very eager to improve his craft.
“I am still growing as a journalist, which means I wanted to find a newspaper where I would not have to ride the metaphorical bench,” Dworaczyk said. “At the Taylor Press, I can pursue multiple stories each week, and that was attractive to me.”
Dworaczyk is a huge sports fan and enjoys playing volleyball or catching an open mic night in Austin with his friends.
“Hunter is an excellent addition to the team, and I look forward to what he is going to be able to do with us,” said Jason Hennington, area editor. “He will be a great asset and I believe the community will be happy he’s here.”
Dworaczyk encourages people from the Taylor community to contact him on his cell phone at 832-600-2061 or email him at Hunter. Dworaczyk@taylorpress. net for any matters they think are newsworthy.
