It’s the time of the year when you see people go out and enjoy our community parks. Neighbors and familiar faces from the online community stroll or jog the trails. A time when we can enjoy the sun (well before it gets too hot) and improve our health.
Part of my morning ritual is a walk in the park while listening to music or podcasts. Some days, I run and try to reach the target distance for the day.
One morning while listening to Norah Jones’ Sunrise and planning out my day, I saw an encouraging message chalked on the trail, “YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU SET YOUR MIND TO!”
“How thoughtful of the person who wrote it,” I said to myself. I went on and noticed more positive affirmations written along the trail.
“SMILE” “YOU ROCK!” “LOVE. PEACE.” “NEVER GIVE UP!” “YOU’RE AWESOME!” Imagine the impact of this random act of kindness to others. We all have different personal reasons to be on the trail. Some may be struggling with motivation or may be at the verge of giving up a lap short. That changes when you see positive affirmations. These messages uplift the mood and provide extra boost to achieve whatever one’s goal may be at that moment. These can also positively change the trajectory of a person’s day. The ripple effect is endless — all because one person had a noble idea and decided to spread kindness.
The goodwill of this anonymous citizen was shared in the online community and garnered praise and positive feedback. Few neighbors also expressed their gratitude by writing next to the positive affirmations.
To the anonymous citizen who wrote the positive affirmations, thank you. Your words of encouragement are inspiration to the community. Your good deed is a proof that kindness is free and can go a long way.
