COLLEGE STATION – Taylor High School varsity football has a huge couple of days ahead of it this week as Ducks skill position players will head to Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station on June 22–23 for Dave Campbell’s Texas Football 7-on-7 State Tournament.

In order to get here, this Ducks squad put in the work on June 10 at the Cameron Yoe High School state qualifying tournament and was the winner of Pool D. They went on to defeat Yoakum High School 20-19 in a thrilling championship game that punched their ticket to the state tourney in College Station.

The Ducks will be playing at Field 13 in Division 2 Pool H on Thursday against Frisco Panther Creek High School, Midland Christian School and Jasper High School. Taylor will play Panther Creek at 1:45 p.m. on Field B as the home team, Midland Christian at 3:15 p.m. on Field A as the home team and Jasper at 4:45 p.m. on Field A as the away team.

Panther Creek is a new school that just opened in 2022 and had its first varsity football season last year with a squad made up entirely of juniors, sophomores and freshmen. Although they finished 3-8 overall, the Panthers made the 4A-1 playoffs as a No. 4 seed with a 3-3 record in district play.

The Midland Christian Mustangs (6-5 in 2022) are consistently one of the better TAPPS Division 2 teams in Texas that plays a tough non-district schedule every year, while Jasper is coming off a 2022 campaign in which the Bulldogs went 7-4 as a 4A-2 team.

Single-elimination Championship Bracket action is scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m. for Division 2 with matchups still to be determined.
