Taylor will host major Texas figure this week.

Cecilia Abbott, First Lady of Texas, will be the keynote speaker at St. Mary’s Catholic High School’s second annual Cultura Vitae (“Culture of Life”) dinner Friday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m.

A native Texan and the child of educators, Abbott has an extensive career in education and holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of St. Thomas in Houston. She served as a teacher, principal and then an administrator in health care prior to her time as First Lady.

“We are thrilled to host the First Lady of our great state. From someone who understands schools as well as Mrs. Abbott does, it’s a strong endorsement of the exciting education we’re building at St. Mary’s,” said Kevin E. Stuart, the high school’s headmaster. “Just this year, our students have not only immersed themselves in the depths for the faith and the best that humanity has thought, written, and said, but they have also started a football team, gone camping to study astronomy, attended the symphony, and flown to Washington, DC for the March for Life.”

A classical model school, St. Mary’s Catholic High School is the first Chesterton Academy in Texas and offers a unique curriculum in our area. The school’s mission is a deep faith strengthened by the wisdom and intellectual riches of the Catholic tradition and western civilization. With a Great Books approach, students learn geometry from Euclid, philosophy from Plato, history from Julius Caesar, and read great works of literature from the Odyssey to Shakespeare. As a whole, St. Mary’s has been one of the fastest growing Catholic schools in the diocese for the last five years and the high school saw its student body triple in size in its second academic year.

The dinner will take place in the St. Mary’s gym. Tickets are $75 per person and on-sale now at spicket.events/ stmarys or by calling the school office at 512-352-2313 and a limited number of sponsorships remain available.
