The Taylor High School girls’ varsity basketball team was in action on Tuesday night as the Lady Ducks had scrimmages against Lago Vista High School and Bastrop High School.
Head coach Lawrence Bailey’s squad was able to get in plenty of reps for the starters and bench players in the two games, which featured summer league rules and two 20-minute halves with a running clock.
The Lady Ducks played great defense as a team and were led offensively by the junior duo of guard Sophia Fisher and forward Kionayh Rivers. Fisher was able to spread the floor and get good looks at shots, while Rivers made her presence known in the paint on both offense and defense.
Although the Lady Ducks were without their top scorer from last season with lone senior guard Ansley Reed inactive, Taylor played solid basketball. The Lady Ducks are well on their way to defending their district title from last season.
Taylor girls basketball will continue to get summer experience on June 27 when the Lady Ducks host scrimmages in both the main gym and small gym at Taylor High School. The Lady Ducks will play both of their games in the main gym at 6 p.m. vs. McCallum High School and another 8 p.m. game against Bastrop.
Thrall and Granger will also be there for scrimmages as they build for the 2023-24 regular season that starts in the fall. The Tigerettes will play in the small gym against Bastrop at 6 p.m. and then again at 8 p.m. vs. McCallum. As for the Lady Lions, they will go up against Manor New Tech at 5 p.m. in the small gym and then play Savio at 7 p.m. in the main gym.
