The Ducks hosted its annual boys’ basketball summer camp on June 12–15 under varsity basketball head coach Stephen Gibson. The camp was considered a success and Gibson is very eager to bring the camp back next year with even greater numbers.
“They were so competitive, but the main thing is that they have fun,” Gibson said after the conclusion of camp on Thursday. “Just to see those smiles is enough for me.”
Just like the previous week’s Lady Ducks basketball camp under girls’ head coach Lawrence Bailey, the four-day boys camp was split up into two groups of the younger second through fifth graders going early and the older sixth through ninth graders finishing the day.
“This week we talked teamwork,” Gibson said. “Communication and just being positive, but we really stress having fun. On this level, it’s about fun.”
In addition to practicing the fundamentals of basketball and running drills, the camps featured scrimmages between the boys from one-on-one to five-on-five. Shooting, dribbling, passing, court awareness and having a lot of fun were at the core of the camp.
Each camper got a t-shirt in their desired size and was also given a certificate at the end of each camp by Gibson and his assistant coaches.
