TRAPPED ON A BALCONY!
Firefighters rescued two residents trapped on a balcony at the Burnett Place Apartments on June 5 as a grease fire ripped through the upper floor.
Fire officials say if they had gotten there a few minutes later, the resident would have had to jump.
No injuries were reported in the fire at 405 Sloan St., according to the Taylor Fire Department.
Apartment manager Kim Martin said she was happy no one was hurt, adding she appreciated the efforts of the fire crews.
However, several residents were reportedly displaced by the fire, which officials said began in a kitchen.
SAMSUNG HIGHWAY SEGMENT 2 BEGINS
Segment 2 will connect FM 3349 to CR 404. It is expected to be complete in late 2024. It will cost approximately $5.13 million, funded by the 2019 voterapproved Williamson County Road Bond Program.
Segment 1 connects CR 404 to FM 973. When finished, it will be a four-lane road connecting FM 973 from Samsung to the future Southeast Loop. Segment 1 is expected to be finished in August.
The entire project is expected to cost about $22 million, with Samsung contributing nearly $3 million into it plus the right-of-way through Samsung property.
ADAMS TAKES THE REINS IN THRALL
Justin Adams has been officially named the new head coach of the Thrall Tigers baseball team.
Adams said one of his first priorities will be getting past the newness that a coaching change brings.
Adams added that he feels the success he has had in his 15 years of coaching baseball, centered around his ability to relate the style of gameplay, to the players.

KERLEY DOMINATES THE 100-METER AT FLORENCE DIAMOND LEAGUE
Fred Kerley won his second Diamond League event in a span of six days after a 9.94 second show in the men’s 100meter dash on Friday, June 2.
Kerley edged out Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya (10.05 seconds) and former Baylor University standout Trayvon Bromell (10.09 seconds) to continue his dominance in 2023.
The Tokyo Olympics silver medalist and 2022 World Champion seems to improve every race and has his sights set on winning the World Athletics Championships for the second time in a row which will take place in Budapest in August this year.
Kerley has still yet to cross paths again with Marcell Jacobs of Italy, the Tokyo Olympics gold medalist who has not raced Kerley head-tohead this year or last year due to injuries.
