The Taylor High School varsity baseball team announced the 22-4A All-District awards this past weekend with many names from the program earning high honors.

Head coach Justin Adams was named the 22-4A Coach of the Year. The 2023 season under Adams was one for the record books as the 31-5-1 overall record was the most wins a Taylor baseball team ever had.

Ducks senior Cohen Tyree, who will be playing in the upcoming 2023 THSBCA All-Star Game on June 17 held at Dell Diamond, was named the 22-4A Co-Most Valuable Player for his stellar play on both offense, defense, and on the mound for Taylor. Tyree also set a school single-season record with 53 hits this season, while junior shortstop and first-team all-district selection Dominick Hartman is now in second place on that list with 46 base hits.

Nick Treuter, who burst onto the scene as the catcher as just a sophomore in 2023, was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player and will only continue to get better for the Ducks.

Taylor junior Chris Perez was selected as the district’s Pitcher of the Year award winner. The final start of the season for Perez was an incredible one as the lefty pitched 6.1 innings against China Spring in Game 1 of the regional finals with a whopping 11 strikeouts and zero runs allowed in the 3-0 victory.

Selected as first-team all-district were Hartman, junior pitcher Devin Valdez, senior outfielder Jake Jansky, and sophomore Mario Aguero. Taylor senior outfielder Conner Barcuch and junior third baseman Aiden Aguero were named to the second team, while senior outfielder Jacob Turner and senior infielder Mason Hortenstine were both named honorable mentions.

The postseason run was a thing of beauty as Taylor went through Houston Scarborough, Robinson, Salado and Longview Spring Hill to get all the way to the Class 4A Region 3 Finals against China Spring. Although the Ducks were beaten 2-1 in a best-of-three series with China Spring to cap off a remarkable season, a majority of this team will return in 2024 with another opportunity for another deep playoff run.
