Taylor’s chief of police recently discussed himself and the Taylor Police Department on the Taylor Press’ newest community news video program.
Chief Henry Fluck sat down with publisher Jason Hennington on “Taylor Talk with Jason Hennington” Monday, Feb. 14.
The chief discussed a wide variety of subjects pertaining to the department, such as training, the recent release of the racial profiling report, and Taylor’s record of use of lethal force. Hennington commented that there’s only been one time when a Taylor police officer has had to fire a weapon.
“I hope it’s a reflection of the officer we hire, for one,” said Fluck. “I do believe our officers have self restraint and control and fire discipline.”
Fluck addressed the conception that crime is “way up” in the city. According to the chief, overall crime in Taylor has been reduced and major crimes are down 22%.
“There are certain crimes that are up, and I don’t want to mislead because we had the murders from last year,” said Fluck. “We are continuing working to address crime in the community and hopefully we continue to do so,” said Fluck.
Hennington also chatted with the chief about lighter subjects, such as how Fluck is a six-time Boston Marathon runner.
“I enjoy getting out there,” said Fluck. “I think I still have some endurance.”
The Taylor Press recently encouraged followers on the newspaper’s Facebook page to name the show. The winning vote was for “Taylor Talk with Jason Hennington.”
“I hope the community becomes more involved in it and submits questions for whoever our guest is,” said Hennington.
Fluck is the show’s third guest after City Manager Brian LaBorde and Deputy City Manager Jeff Jenkins. LaShon Gros, Taylor municipal government’s human resources director, is the planned guest for March.

The show is broadcast on the first Monday of every month at noon. The show complements the Taylor Press’ other live show, “Around the Watercooler,” which airs at 11:15 a.m. Thursdays and primarily covers local sports along with other topics.
