Shirley Adams McCoy passed away May 10, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Thanks to the tender care of Marina Cook and Compassus Hospice, Shirley passed away at home with her children grateful to spend time with her before she left this life.
Shirley was born June 4, 1946, in Abilene.
After marrying the love of her life, Mike McCoy, in 1972, and living in a number of cities, they settled in Taylor, 30 years ago.
It is here she found her true home and sense of community. In addition to working in the housing and funeral industries, Shirley, together with Mike, operated the McCoy House Frame Shop. However, Shirley was best known for her involvement in numerous local organizations including the Taylor Garden Club, Moody Museum and Junior Women’s Study Club. She was a presence for many years at the local donut shop and was known for her amazing cooking and entertaining skills. It is also in Taylor that Shirley rediscovered faith and committed her life to her Savior.
The love she shared with Mike was a cornerstone of her life, and it fills her loved ones with peace knowing Shirley is with Mike again up in Heaven. The family is grateful to all of those who made Shirley’s life so joyful during the good times and easier in the hard years of her disease and recent cancer treatment. While her memories faded at the end, the generosity of spirit from Shirley’s friends, neighbors and the congregation of Christ Fellowship Church will not be forgotten by those of us who loved her.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Michael David McCoy; father, J.D.; mother, Dotty; and sisters, Patty and Pam.
Shirley is survived by her brother, Mike Adams (Terri); children, Angela Schultz (Tom), Tiffani McCoy (Alan Johnson) and Dylan McCoy (Tonia). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Taylor, Nathan, Kira, Kristyn and Michael; as well as eight great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held June 6, at 10 a.m. at Christ Fellowship Church, 1517 McLain St. in Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Meals on Wheels or Compassus.
