The St. Mary’s Rams football team is a small group that is loaded with talent, and Daniel VIncent is the personification of that.
Vincent came into the season never playing a single down of football, but knew if he just put his mind to it, he could become one of the best in the district, if not the state, and on Tuesday, May 2, he signed to play at The Catholic University in Washington D.C.
Rams’ head coach Rick Cobia had high praise for Vincent after the signing and said that he is excited and proud of the young man he got to coach.
“It’s exciting to see Daniel get this opportunity to continue playing football at the college level. His short time with us has been impressive,” Cobia said. “He worked extremely hard in the weight room and on the field. He played both on the offensive and defensive line. He is extremely intelligent and learns concepts quickly.”
Cobia saw Vincent’s drive and passion from day one and put him to work immediately. Vincent jumped into the lineup and became a force on both sides of the ball for the Rams and was an intricate piece moving forward with such a young team.
Vincent helped set the standard for the young Rams’ team, and showed that if they continue do the little things correctly, they will have a lot of success. It was no secret that the Rams ran the ball better than anyone this season with Ryan Altman recording over 1,700 yards on the ground along with 34 touchdowns. Vincent became vital to the success of the running game, opening holes for Altman to run through with ease. Vincent did it all on the offensive line getting down the field to help block and sometimes would have to take on two pass rushers to get the job done and it was a challenge he met head-on.
With the success on offense, Cobia also put Vincent on the defensive side of the ball where he thrived even more. While Vincent helped the running game on offense, he did the opposite on defense stuffing any rushing attempts the opposition attempted.
Vincent was also fortunate enough to record his first ever interception of his career, which fired up his teammates and the fans as took off down the field.
With his name on the dotted line Vincent will finish out his time at St. Mary’s High School before the next chapter of his life begins in Washington D.C.
“He finished his offseason at the end of his junior year a lot stronger and faster. Daniel made an honorable mention in the TCAF District 1 division. Daniel is a great representative of St. Mary’s Catholic High School,” Cobia said.
