Public budget workshop scheduled
HUTTO – The public is invited to weigh in on city budget priorities Saturday, May 13.
The workshop starts at 9 a.m. at Cottonwood Creek Elementary, 3160 Limmer Loop.
“This is a follow up to the first workshop we did a couple of weeks back, but we’re going to be ranking and prioritizing the spending suggestions the public made during the first workshop,” said City Manager James Earp.
Earp added that staff would be explaining the items, so attendees who missed the first meeting will still be able to understand the suggestions.
Lunch will be provided. Childcare for ages 5 and up will be available. No reservations required.
Memorial submissions sought
The Richard A. Oman American Legion Post 302 will hold a remembrance ceremony to honor service members killed in action on Friday, May 26.
The event will take place during the city’s annual Sunset Block Party Bash at the Hutto Co-op District, 420 State Highway 79, starting at 6 p.m. Residents who would like their loved one to be honored during the ceremony should send the service person’s name, rank, branch of service and date of final sacrifice to growinghutto@ huttotx.gov no later than May 24.
The Block Party will feature live music and activities for the family.
Camp chairs and coolers are welcome. No glass is permitted.
New police cadets introduced
City Manager James Earp introduced six new police recruits at a recent council meeting.
“They represent the largest cadet class to be recruited in the history of the Hutto Police Department,” Earp said.
“If all goes according to plan, the group will be sworn in as full-time police officers in spring of 2024 after successful completion of the police academy.”
The recruits are Corbin Grim, Shannon Ibarra, Andres Leal, Taylor Lopez, Ethan Moron and Stephanie Nunez.
District adds new leadership positions
Hutto Independent School District has created two new director positions and promoted two staff members to fill them. At an April 27 meeting, trustees appointed Amber Kingsley as the district’s new director of fine arts and Kyle Ruggirello as director of student affairs.
Kingsley had been serving as the fine arts coordinator while Ruggirello was the assistant director of student affairs.
Superintendent Celina Estrada Thomas said the new directorships were made necessary due to the expanding student population.
“It’s a role that is severely needed in our school district as we continue to grow,” she said.
