LAGO VISTA – The Granger Lions took on the Johnson City Eagles in the first round of the playoffs in a three-game series.

The first game was played Thursday, May 4, and the second was played on Friday, May 5, both at Lago Vista High School, in which the Eagles swept the series.

Friday’s game saw the Eagles defeat the Lions by a score of 6-3. Johnson City scored the opening run to apply early pressure to the Lions.

The Lions would get the run back in the bottom of the first to even up the game at 1-1, showing the Eagles they were not backing down. Trailing a game in the series and facing elimination, the Lions knew that they needed some momentum in this game to keep their season alive.

On the opposite side of the field, the Eagles knew they would have to take full advantage of any mistakes by the Lions. In the top of the third inning, they did exactly that. The Eagles caught the Lions on their heels and put five runs up on the board to make it a 6-1 game halfway through the game.

The Lions began a rally to try to get back in the game. Shortly after the Eagles scored five runs, the Lions responded by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 6-3.

The Lions’ defense played a big part in the late rally, shutting down the Eagles and preventing them from extending their lead any further. In the bottom of the seventh, it came down to their offense to make a play.

Unfortunately, the Lions’ offense was unable to add any more runs to complete the comeback, and the Eagles were able to seal the victory.

The loss eliminated the Lions from the playoffs. The team has a lot to be excited about next season and should be ready to hit the ground running next season.
