The Junior Woman’s Study Club gathered at the Thrall Country Diner for their April 13, luncheon meeting with 26 members present. Hostesses for the event included Martha Griffith, Betty Inman, Ginny McAlister, Liz 0’Dell and Darlene Rydell. Before the meal, Griffith gave a reading and the blessing.

After the meal, speakers Susan Komandosky and Paulette McConchie, enlightened the study club group with ways in which the board and its affiliate, Friends of the Williamson County Child Welfare Board serve our community.

Their online presence states, “The Friends of the Williamson County Child Welfare Board is a nonprofit organization devoted to helping supply the needs of Williamson County children in foster care and their families, as well as the workers who support them. Raising awareness about prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect is another vital goal of the organization. The needs of the children drive the work of the board.”

The Williamson County Child Welfare Board and Friends also work to raise funds, which help pay for a variety of expenses such as medical needs, counseling, clothing, driver’s education, graduation items, summer school and camp activities, dance and sports needs, school supplies, monthly stipends for students furthering their higher education, safe sleep items and birthday gift cards.

The organization also maintains Rainbow Rooms located in Georgetown, Round Rock and Taylor.

These rooms are available to CPS caseworkers 24 hours a day. They provide a ready supply of clothing, personal, and safety items needed when faced with an unexpected situation.

This year, the Friends of the Williamson County Child Welfare Board has served over 800 children in some capacity and fulfilled the Holiday Wish List of over 300 children in foster care.

Many thanks go to those who continue to serve through donations of funds, items, and time.

Following the program, President Anne Wentrcek led a brief business meeting part of which included the Junior Woman’s Study Club voting to make a generous donation to the Williamson County Child Welfare Board in support of their service to the Williamson County children in foster care. The meeting concluded with table flower decorations being given to speakers, Komandosky and McConchie. Four other plants went to lucky door prize winners. Meetings will resume in October 2023.
