WALLER – The Taylor Ducks started their playoff journey at Waller High School Thursday, May 4, and only needed five innings to get the job done.
The Ducks faced Houston Scarborough in round one and shut them out on their way to an 18-0 victory.
The Ducks would use five pitchers in the game, with each pitching one inning throughout the game. Every single one of them dominated the mound and collectively came away with a no hitter. The combined efforts of Chris Perez, Devin Valdez, Cohen Tyree, Aiden Aguero and Braylan Alderete struck out eight batters in five innings.
To add to their impressive night, the five Duck pitchers combined to walk only four batters Thursday night. This led to the Ducks’ potent offense dominating the game from their first at-bat of the game.
The Ducks scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning, recording multiple base hits and a couple doubles. A few walks sprinkled in helped the Ducks keep runners on base and when they saw a pitch, they liked they took advantage.
Taylor added two runs in the bottom of third, then five more in the bottom of the fifth inning to cap off their dominant win. Perez, Tyree and Valdez all recorded doubles along with Jacob Turner to spearhead the Ducks’ offense.
Mario Aguero also had a triple in Thursday’s game, adding to the Ducks ability to not only be sound defensively, but also run up the score with timely hitting. Adding to the great offensive performance, the Ducks only had one batter strikeout.
Every batter for the Ducks either walked, recorded a hit or was thrown or flew out. The Ducks sent a statement to the rest of the teams in the 4A conference as they continue through their journey on the hunt for the big trophy.
The Ducks advance to the second round and will face the winner of the Robinson-Jarrell game, which is set to be played on Friday, May 5.
