Taken suddenly and shockingly Feb. 12, 2022 — a blood clot stopped her heart — Denise Ann Richter, 60, of Round Rock, leaves to those who loved her the gift of truly knowing she loved them back.

Denise was born March 29, 1961.

Proof is in the pudding — and cakes, pies, cookies, cupcakes — thank you, King Arthur Flour. And lucky was everyone on the receiving end of cross-stitch, needlepoint, crochet, knitting, the legendary Advent boxes and amazing feats of glue gun and Silhouette paper-cutter.

Denise’s craft with words was equally amazing.

An old-school journalist, she reported for The Battalion at Texas A&M (Class of ’83) and The Brazosport Facts in Clute. In 1985, she joined the editing ranks, making newspapers better in Mississippi, Florida, Washington, DC, Oregon, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Louisiana.

She left journalism in 2010 — high on the masthead as executive editor — to do word magic for the rapidly expanding Acadian Ambulance Co., based in Lafayette, Louisiana. She loved the work and was much-loved at Acadian.

Denise is predeceased by her parents, Minnie (Jensen) and Albert Richter, Jr., who also died much too young.

And while connected by blood to very few, she is survived by the giant and loving family she created over decades, one kind gesture at a time.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Providence Funeral Home, 807 Carlos Parker Blvd NW in Taylor, with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m.

Burial will take place at Taylor City Cemetery immediately following services.

A Celebration of Life will be held at noon Wednesday, Feb. 23, at St. Jules Catholic Church, 116 St Jules St. in Lafayette.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Acadian Companies Employee Disaster Relief Fund.
