A quick-thinking pilot managed to avoid disaster Tuesday, April 25, by landing his ERCO Ercoupe aircraft in a corn field off U.S. 79 near County Road 431. Eyewitness Tim Mikeska, a pilot with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association Airport Support Network, said it was a great emergency landing. “It was a controlled landing in a corn field,” Mikeska said. “The pilot did an amazing job, with very little damage and no injuries.”
