THRALL – While the season didn’t go quite as planned for the Thrall Tigerettes, they did finish their season on a high note, topping the Bartlett Lassies 5-1 Friday night. The Tigerettes finish the season with a 14-14-2 overall record and an 8-8 District 27-2A mark.
Thrall got on the board early with a run in the first. Mikayla Velesquez led the inning off with a triple to left and scored on Ashlyn Jarosek’s sacrifice fly to center for a 1-0 Thrall lead.
The Tigerettes added a pair of runs in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead. Dezi Lopez led off the inning with a line-drive double to center and Riley Luton walked. With two on and one out, Jarosek hit a hard, infield grounder, scoring both runners.
The Lassies scored their only run of the game in the top of the third inning on a pair of hits and a hit batter, but Thrall responded in the fifth with their final two runs of the game. Jarosek hit a one-out single to center, followed by Neveah Irvin, who roped a triple to left that scored Jarosek. Irvin would come home when Bartlett’s catcher misplayed the throw home, for the final run of the game.
Jarosek led the Tigerettes at the plate going two for two. Autree Kelm picked up the win, allowing just three hits and one walk over seven innings of work. She also struck out 11 Lassie batters.
The Tigerettes started the season with high hopes of earning a playoff spot. Thrall fought hard throughout the season, battling most of the top district teams in close games.
But, while the season didn’t end the way the Tigerettes had hoped, they will be losing just three seniors and their roster is heavy with freshmen and sophomores, so the future should be bright for Thrall in upcoming seasons.
