LA GRANGE – The Taylor Lady Ducks competed at the area track meet in La Grange Friday, April 21, and had a few athletes qualify for the regional meet.
The Lady Ducks continued to show improvement, because even though not everyone on the team qualified for the regional meet, they still recorded some new personal bests.
Starting at the shot-put event, the Lady Ducks had Camryn Nunamaker holding down that spot and dominating the event all season long, and last Friday was no different. Nunamaker launched the ball with authority, and it soared 32 feet and 11 and a half inches.
The distance for Nunamaker’s throw was good enough to land her in fifth place, and while it was just short of qualifying for regionals the throw is now her new personal best.
Krista Randig would take the discus event head on, and again following Nunamaker’s lead, launched it 91 feet and 10 inches. Another impressive throw from the Lady Ducks, but unfortunately Randig was also just short of qualifying for the regional meet but hit her personal best throw.
Lady Ducks head coach Shelli Cobb said she was upset her throwers were just short of qualifying from making it to the regional meet.
“I hated that our throwers did not advance to the regional meet, but the fact that they threw personal best and are returning next year is a big positive for us,” Cobb said.
Emma Whitsel settled into the starting blocks for the Lady Ducks in the 100-meter hurdles race. After getting a good start, Whitsel exploded down the track to finish the race in 16.07 seconds, which earned her third place in the race.
Whitsel qualified for regionals because of her efforts, but her day was just getting started. In the 4x200 relay, the team of Kaleigh Woods, Azalie Balusek, Zakaya Frederick and Whitsel were ready to get going.
The chemistry between these four was on display for everyone to see as they took third place in the race with a time of one minute 49 seconds. This would also be good enough to qualify for the regional meet and Cobb was excited about.
“Taylor Ducks are regional bound. I am so excited for these young ladies as they advanced to the regional meet to be held at Bullard High School Friday and Saturday, April 28-29,” Cobb said. “They competed hard to earn these spots.”
Like Cobb said, the Lady Ducks will be back in action Saturday, April 29, when they will be putting forth effort to keep their season going.
