Residents of Taylor will have an opportunity to hear from the candidates for elective office at a local candidate forum at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18. People have the choice again this year of seeing it in person at the Taylor ISD Events Center at 3101 N. Main St. or watching live on the Taylor Press Facebook Page.

“The Chamber and the Taylor Press present this forum every year because we believe that voters need to have a strong connection to their local leaders because they have an enormous impact on residents’ daily lives,” Chamber President Tia Rae Stone said.

This year, the community has contested races for at-large races for the City Council and the Taylor Independent School District Board of Directors.

In the Taylor ISD race, incumbent Jim Buzan will face challenger Lisa Baum.

City Council incumbent Dwayne Ariola has three challengers in the general election, Janetta McCoy, Rick Von Pfiel and Sandra Wolff.

All candidates have agreed to attend the forum.

“We’re happy to provide another way for voters to hear from the ones who will serve them in office,” Jason Hennington, area editor for the Taylor Press, added. The Taylor Press and Chamber will have some questions of their own but are also interested in hearing suggested questions from the public. Questions are welcomed with the subject line “Question for Candidate” sent to jason.hennington@granitemediapartners. com prior to 5 p.m. Monday, April 17. Questions will not be accepted online during the event.
