Area charitable organizations: Samsung Austin Semiconductor might be interested in partnering with you in your mission.

From now until Friday, May 5, area nonprofit organizations that provide services directly in Taylor are invited to apply for 2023 donation grants.

“Samsung has said from the very beginning that we wanted to be a great neighbor, and part of being a great neighbor is getting involved in the community with organizations that are helping address key issues facing the citizens of Taylor, such as feeding the underserved, providing innovative teacher grants, creating great futures and more,” said Michele Glaze, company spokeswoman.

While the application offers specific amounts of $1,000, $5,000 or $10,000 to apply for from the chip-manufacturer, Glaze said there is some flexibility in that area.

“Nonprofits this year, they have some standard numbers they can apply for, but if they have a different financial request they are seeking, they can reach out to me directly,” Glaze said. “And just because they apply for a specific amount, that doesn’t mean it is exactly what they will get.”

Applicants must serve the Taylor community, and first-time applicants may only apply for the $1,000 level. All requests will be evaluated by their Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound criteria, and must include specific target metrics, the organization’s services must be inclusive and barrierfree to all individuals.

“(For example,) we would prefer instead of saying “We would like to end homelessness, that it be a specific goal. such as ‘We would like to help five homeless individuals with a place to live and feed them,’” Glaze said. “We would prefer you talk about the actionable elements that you are trying to do with specific numbers and targets.”

In addition, new grantee requestors must also provide banking information, itemized project budgets, a copy of the IRS designation letter as well as other materials.

“As a foreign-owned company, we have very specific U.S. laws and compliance issues that we are required to follow,” Glaze said. “That is why we ask for that type of information.”

In 2021, Samsung made headlines when they donated $1 million that was shared among four organizations, including Shepherds Heart Taylor, Taylor Independent School District, Bluebonnet Trails Community Services, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of East Williamson County.

However, the philanthropy didn’t end there, Glaze said.

“In addition to that, we provided $300,000 to support community and civic development, of which $150,000 went directly to the City of Taylor, and then $150,000 plus shared among more than 45 plus charities,” Glaze said.

Glaze said that this same cycle is being repeated this year.

“Again, we are giving $150,000 to the City of Taylor, and the other $150,000 is what this application cycle is focused on,” she said. “We will continue to be providing opportunities on an annual basis, but the criteria will change every year, so organizations that receive it this year may not be eligible next year.”

Interested applicants with additional questions are encouraged to reach out to Glaze directly at [email protected] or to Wesley King at wesley. [email protected]. Applications can be filled out at https:// www.surveymonkey. com/r/SAS2023Taylor.
