HUTTO – District wins are very important to teams this late in the season, and the Hutto Hippos just picked up back-to-back wins to help distance themselves in the district standings.
The Hippos defeated the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs Monday and Tuesday night to slide comfortably in second place in the district.
The Hippos took the first game Monday night, in Hutto, by a score of 6-3. The Hippos played an almost perfect game, making minimal mistakes and scoring at will.

The Hippos had their faithful fanbase on their side, and they resumed the offensive excitement from the first inning scoring one more run in the second. Now sitting with a 3-1 lead, the Hippos defense stood tall and got off the field before the Bulldawgs could cut into their lead anymore.
Hutto added one more run in the third to extend the lead to 4-1, then the Bulldawgs added a run in the fourth to cut the Hippos lead in half. The Hippos were not backing down and scored two runs in the fifth before the Bulldawgs scored one in the sixth to end the game at 6-3.
On Tuesday, the Hippos traveled to Copperas Cove to play on the Bulldawgs on their home field, and they wanted to keep their momentum going. The Hippos started hot on offense scoring five runs in the top of the first inning, which really set the tone for the game.
The Hippos defense carried their momentum over from the first game, shutting down the Bulldawgs offense.
The Bulldawgs scored a run in the bottom of the second, but the Hippos added three runs in back-to-back innings to put the game out of reach.
Now sitting comfortably in second place in district, the Hippos now look ahead to their next series against the Bryan Vikings that started Friday, April 14, as the visiting team yet again.
