Taylor’s two bookstores, Curio Mrvosa and Libros Bookmobile will celebrate in the 10th anniversary of Independent Bookstore Day.
“Independent Bookstore Day is more than a celebration of indie bookstores, it’s a celebration of everything we stand for — community, inclusion, literacy and representation for all — and not just in our town but everywhere indie bookstores are,” said Veronica Soliz Johnson, owner of Libros Bookmobile.
“Independent bookstores are more than just books and cool stuff, we are safe spaces for everyone. Thank you, Taylor, and the surrounding areas, for being an important part of our local bookstores. We could not be here without you.”
Independent Bookstore Day was established in 2013 to promote, celebrate and highlight the value of the independent bookstore community.
The day has been observed on the last Saturday of April every year since 2013. This year, more than 900 bookstores across the country will participate.
“We’re excited to celebrate Independent Bookstore Day with our community here in Taylor and with our fellow indie bookstores around the country,” said Alyse Mervosh, co-owner of Cuiro Mrvosa.
“This day is a reminder that we’re booksellers who care about and have a stake in our communities. We listen to our neighbors and collaborate with other small businesses in town because we believe we all rise together.”
Independent Bookstore Day is organized by the American Booksellers Association, a national not-for- profit trade organization, that works with booksellers and industry partners to ensure the success and profitability of independently owned book retailers, and to assist in expanding the community of the book.
To celebrate, Curio Mrvosa and Libros Bookmobile will have exclusive Independent Bookstore Day items along with other events.
