BREMOND – The Granger Lions spoiled the Bremond Tigers ability to enjoy home field by capturing their fifth district win of the season.
The Lions picked up a 7-2 win over the Tigers, after their offense found a rhythm late in the district matchup.
The first two innings of the game saw both teams held scoreless, setting up the third inning to break the scoreless tie. The Lions would be the ones to open the scoring after two singles and an error.
Wyatt Rochner was able to speed his way home after a Tripp Wilkie pop fly that was dropped. The Tigers quickly got back on track defensively to close out the inning and put themselves back on offense.
The Tigers capitalized on an error after the Lions failed to haul in a ball. The Tigers scored two runs off the error to give them the lead heading into the fourth inning.
Granger would not let that slide and tied the game in the top of the fourth inning before going back out on defense. With the game tied at two, the Lions and Tigers’ respective defenses took over the game.
Neither team gave an inch as the game rolled on with neither team allowing a run until the seventh and final inning. The Lions led off the seventh inning knowing they needed to make some plays if they wanted to come away with the win.
After a walk and a single, the Tigers secured the first out of the inning with two runners on base already. Travis Burton hit yet another single for the Lions, which brought home a run to break the tie.
The Lions then took advantage of another error by the Tigers defense, which brought home another run. A walk loaded the bases up for the Lions, and Cobe Whitney would lay down a sacrifice bunt to bring home another run for the Lions.
Tripp Wilkie recorded his second hit of the game that went into the outfield for a base hit and an RBI. This helped Granger extend their lead to 7-2 before Bremond secured the three outs necessary to go back on offense.
Now back on offense, the Tigers needed to rally if they wanted to win this game on their home field. The Lions’ defense was able to carry the momentum from the offense onto the field as Burton struck out the first three batters to end the game.
The win ended a threegame skid for Granger, and they hoped to bring that momentum back home when they hosted Bremond Thursday, April 6.
