Martha Ann Cervenka

Lifelong Granger resident, Martha Ann Cervenka, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Will-O-Bell Nursing Home in Bartlett. She was 92 years old. She was born July 4, 1930, in Granger to her parents Louis and Rosie (Nemec) Hajda.

Lifelong Granger resident, Martha Ann Cervenka, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Will-O-Bell Nursing Home in Bartlett. She was 92 years old. She was born July 4, 1930, in Granger to her parents Louis and Rosie (Nemec) Hajda.

Martha married the love of her life, Alfred Cervenka Sr., Oct. 12, 1954, and was happily married for 49 years.

The two were just six months shy of celebrating their 50th anniversary, when Alfred passed April 5, 2004.

Martha and Alfred were honored to serve the Granger area through their ownership of the Granger Lumber Company for 35 years.

Martha was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her smile was infectious and could bring joy to any room. She will be surely missed by family and friends alike.

Martha attended Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic School in Granger and graduated from Granger High School in 1948. She was a member of Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church as well as a member of K.J.Z.T., K.J.T and the Alter Society.

Martha could often be seen around the yard nursing her beautiful roses. She enjoyed sewing and baking, but what brought her the most joy was spending time with her family. Martha loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with her whole heart and soul.

In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Cervenka Sr.; her son, Alfred Cervenka Jr.; her siblings, Angeline Repa, Marie Repa, Vaclav (VJ) Hajda and Agnes Bohac; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.

Survivors include her children, daughter-inlaw Sharon Cervenka, James Cervenka and wife Laurie, Joyce Merrill and husband John, grand children Jamie Huf and husband James, Kayla Mckinley and husband Ryan, Marissa McElhany and husband John, Mckenzie Cervenka, Lukas Merrill, her 3 great grandchildren, Tatym Huf, Taryn Huf and Willa McElhany, brother Louis Hajda Jr. and wife Loretta, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., with rosary to follow Wednesday April 12, at Providence Funeral Home, 807 Carlos Parker Blvd NW in Taylor.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 13, at 1:30 p.m. at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 100 N Brazos St. in Granger, followed by committal service at Calvary Cemetery 521 CR 335, Granger.
