The Taylor Ducks continued their dominant district run after defeating the La Grange Leopards 7-2 at home Tuesday night.

The Ducks jumped out to an early lead that helped them to push past their district rival for the win.

After a scoreless first inning, the Leopards would open the scoring in the top of the second inning. In that time, Devin Valdez would be pitching for the Ducks, where he earned six strike outs to give Taylor some momentum despite the run scored.

The Ducks went on offense ready to take back control of the game, but the leadoff batter striking out made some fans anxious. With two outs to play, the Ducks went to work trying to muster up some offense.

Jake Jansky continued to have the hottest bat on the team, stepping into a pitch that soared far into the outfield. The ball landed, and Jansky was rewarded a double for his hard work at the plate.

With runners on second and third, the Ducks knew they were talented enough to get one more hit to bring home a run. Valdez stepped into the batter’s box, where another single would bring home a run to tie the game.

Right after Valdez hit his single to score a run, Dominick Hartman stepped up to hit a single of his own. Hartman’s single brought home another run for Taylor to make it a 2-1 ball game in the second inning.

Mario Aguero hit a single to advance the runners on base, which was followed up by a sacrifice fly by Cohen Tyree to bring Valdez home for another score. The Leopards would get the third out shortly after this play to get back on offense.

The Leopards had the bases loaded with two outs, and Valdez walked a batter to give the Leopards another run that cut the Ducks lead to one run. Tyree subbed in for Valdez to get the Ducks the final out of the inning.

The Ducks scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings thanks to an error that led to a run in the fourth and an RBI double from Hartman in the fifth. Taylor added two more runs in the sixth inning thanks to a pair of singles from Nick Treuter and Jansky.

The Ducks defense would shut down the field for the rest of the game to add another victory in the win column.

The Leopards and Ducks locked horns yet again Thursday, April 6, but this time the Leopards had home field advantage.
