The Taylor Lady Ducks gave up 10 runs in the seventh inning to the Caldwell Hornets at the Duck Pond Tuesday, April 4. That run helped the Lady Hornets pick up a 17-9 win over Taylor.
After a strong start from the Lady Ducks, the Hornets began to find a rhythm offensively.
The Lady Hornets opened the scoring in the top of the first inning before the Lady Ducks got the three outs necessary to go on offense. The Lady Ducks’ offense started the game firing on all cylinders, scoring three runs in the first to give themselves the lead early in the game.
Caldwell would not respond until the fourth inning, where they scored four runs to give themselves a 5-3 lead. The Lady Ducks added another run to the scoreboard to cut the lead to 5-4.
The Lady Hornets added two more runs to make it a 7-5 ball game halfway through the matchup. The Lady Ducks, however, responded with a run of their own to keep themselves within striking distance to recapture the lead.
The Lady Ducks and Lady Hornets would then cool off offensively, as both teams shifted their focus to the defensive side of the ball. The fifth and sixth innings were silent, as far as offense goes, which set up an explosive seventh inning, The Lady Hornets offense exploded onto the scene, scoring 10 runs to go from seven runs to 17 before the Lady Ducks could get three outs. Down 17-5, the Lady Ducks knew it would be a tough task to make their way back into the game, but they gave it their best effort.
The Lady Ducks scored four runs before the rally was cut short by Caldwell’s defense to end the game.
The Lady Ducks have a sour taste in their mouth after that loss and looked for a little bit of redemption and a way to even up their district record when they traveled to take on Manor New Tech on Thursday, April 6.
