Candidate filing ends Friday

Community members that wish to run for public office have less than a week to file for candidacy in local elections. Candidate filing ends Friday, Feb.

Community members that wish to run for public office have less than a week to file for candidacy in local elections.

Candidate filing ends Friday, Feb. 18, for a spot on the May 7 election ballot.

Currently, the only contested race in Taylor is for the District 1 seat on the city council.

Incumbent Gerald Anderson, who serves a mayor pro tem, has filed for re-election. He will be contested by newcomer Stan Werner.

The seat for District 4, held by Robert Garcia, is also set to expire in May. At press time Tuesday, Feb. 15, Garcia was the only candidate for the seat.

At Taylor ISD, three seats are up for election. Place 3, held by Cheryl Carter; Place 4, held by board President Marco Ortiz; and Place 5, held by board Secretary Thomas Rohlack all expire in May.

At press time, Ortiz and Carter have filed for re-election.

City of Granger

The city of Granger has three seats up for election in May. Terms for councilmembers Rosie Sweeting, Mark Matoska and David Hajda all expire in May.

No one has filed for election.

Granger ISD

Two at-large seats will expire in May for the Granger ISD board of trustees.

Seats for President Tommy Filla and Kelli Hutka are up for election. Hutka was appointed by the board to fill an unexpired term. One person, Ashleigh Ging, has filed for election.

Thrall ISD

There are two seats up for election in May. Two people have filed to run for the openings.

Blake Marek and Brian Drummond have filed to run for at-large seats on the Thrall ISD board of trustees.

City of Thrall

One commissioner seat will expire in May and is up for election. The seat belongs to Commissioner Nicole Walla. She has not filed for re-election.

However, Fernando Rodriguez has filed for election to the seat.

City of Hutto

In Hutto, two seats and the mayoral position are set to expire in May. Place 3 and Place 6 are both up for election. Place 3 currently

Place 3 currently has two candidates, Ida Weaver and Randal Clark. Candidates for Place 6 are Amberley Kolar and Nicole Calderon. Debbie Holland was recently appointed to fill the unexpired term for Place 6.

For mayor, incumbent and current Mayor Mike Snyder has filed for election, and will be contested by Amanda “Mandi” Villarreal Salvo. Villarreal Salvo currently serves as the council member for Place 3.

Hutto ISD

At Hutto ISD, three seats are up for election.

Billie Logiudice, board president, Terrence Owens, board vice-president, and Morgan Hubbard, board secretary all have seats that expire in May.

Incumbents Logiudice and Owens have both filed. Other candidates who have filed are Shannon Jacobs, Stevie Jones, Ashley McCombs and Jason McCombs.

IMPORTANT ELECTION DATES

JAN. 1 – First day to apply for ballot by mail

JAN. 19 – First day to file for a place on the ballot

FEB. 18 – Last day to file for a place on the ballot

APRIL 7 – Last day to register to vote

APRIL 26 – Last day to apply for ballot by mail (received, not postmarked)

APRIL 25-29 – Early voting 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at early vote location (Taylor City Hall)

MAY 2-3 – Early Voting 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at early vote location (Taylor City Hall)

MAY 7 – Election Day at vote center locations and last day to receive ballot by mail.
