The Thrall Tigers competed at their district golf meet this past Tuesday at Mustang Creek in Taylor and dominated the course.

Both the boys’ and girls’ teams for the Tigers came away with a first-place finish, with the Tigers’ second boys’ team claiming second place.

The Tigerette golf team shot a 428 as a team to earn their firstplace spot and have some bragging rights over rival Thorndale, who shot a 468. Leading the way for the Tigerettes was Kerrigan Hooker, who shot a 101 followed by Madison Pokorny shooting a 104.

Stephanie Winder and Kinley Hoffman would shoot a 109 and a 114, respectively, to cap off their team’s first-place effort. The Tigerettes first-place finish allowed them to qualify for the regional tournament coming up in the middle of April, but they will not be going alone.

Joining them will be their teammates on the boys’ team, who also had a very dominant showing at the district match. The boys had two groups of four compete at the district meet and began competing with each other toward the end of the match.

The first team, consisting of Asa Gibbs, Maverick McAllister, Seth Cage and Anthony Sandoval, just barely edged out the second team of Triston Zeplin, Tyler Shaw, Hayden Shuttles and Ty Bradford. Thrall’s first boys’ team would shoot 363 for the match with the second team shooting a 374.

Eleven shots separated the two Thrall teams, with the first team earning first place and the second team earning second place. No player on either team shot over 100, which to put into perspective is very hard to do in golf because a fraction of an inch off while hitting the ball, they could add two or three more strokes to their score.

One player on each team shot under 90 shots, which is even more difficult to do but to finish in first and second place takes a good amount of talent. Cage and Zeplin shot an 89 and an 88 respectively to help push their groups onto the regional match.

The regional match for the girls will take place April 17-18, leading to the boys’ regional match starting April 19-20, where the Tigers and Tigerettes will look to add another trophy to the case.
