GIDDINGS – The Taylor Lady Ducks varsity softball team now sits with a 2-2 record in district play after defeating the Giddings Lady Buffaloes Tuesday night on the road.

Tuesday’s game was a fan friendly game as the two teams scored a combined 40 runs with the Lady Ducks scoring 25 of them.

This district is a highly contested one, with every team knowing what is at stake when the matchup with each other. Giddings wanted to take advantage of the matchup by having home field advantage, but the Lady Ducks came ready to swing the bat, and they swung hard.

Being the road team, the Lady Ducks were up to bat first and got off to a hot start offensively scoring nine runs. Sporting a 9-0 lead and taking the field for their first defensive appearance of the game, the Lady Ducks had a ton of confidence.

The Lady Buffaloes knew the game was not over just because of a big first inning. Knowing there was a lot of softball left to play, the Lady Buffaloes got their offense going as well.

Responding with six runs of their own, Giddings held onto a 9-6 lead before going back on offense. The Lady Buffaloes would have a strong defensive showing, keeping the Lady Ducks off the score board and then adding two more runs to make it a 9-8 ball game heading into the third inning.

Taylor’s offense would return to form scoring three runs in the third, but the Lady Buffaloes stayed on their tail feathers scoring three runs in the third. Now sporting a 13-11 lead, the Lady Ducks added two more runs in the fourth inning while keeping the Lady Buffaloes off the score board.

Following that up with a five-run inning from the Lady Ducks offense, while again keeping the Lady Buffaloes of the scoreboard, the Lady Ducks held a comfortable 20-11 lead going into the sixth. The sixth saw the Lady Ducks add five more runs followed up by the Lady Buffaloes scoring four before the game was called.

Sitting in fourth place in the district, the Lady Ducks will look to continue to climb the ladder as they will be back on their home field on Friday, March 31, matching up against the Smithville Lady Tigers.
