Top Notch Burgers opens
“Alright, alright, alright!”
The nostalgic Austin carhop diner made nationally famous for being where Matthew McConaughey’s iconic Dazed and Confused line was first uttered has now opened its location at the Hutto Co-op, 121 Co-op Blvd. The site opened with dine-in service, and car-hop service will be added soon.
“Some folks know us as the burger joint in the movies Varsity Blues and Dazed and Confused, but you can also find Top Notch in fashion magazines, TV commercials and even a few music videos. Our signage and movie references have become iconic symbols in pop culture all over the world,” according to the company website.
The restaurant opened their original location in 1971, and the Hutto location is the company’s first expansion. Through the years, the diner has won awards, including Best Fried Chicken in Texas, Best Burger in the City and Iconic Business of the Year, just to name a few.
This will mark only the second location of Top Notch since its iconic original location opened on Burnet Road in Austin in 1971. The restaurant is known for hot rod and classic car shows, and the first hot rod show at the Co-op is slated for April 23.

Police address bluebonnet season
With tourists and locals alike flocking to take pictures among the roadside bluebonnet fields, the Hutto Police Department would like to remind residents to use extra caution when driving.
Drivers can become distracted by the views, so all drivers need to watch out for vehicles that may be driving erratically. Be prepared for traffic to stop suddenly. It is not illegal to stop for pictures on the roadside, but impeding traffic and trespassing or damaging private property, even just to get a picture, is against the law.
Hutto PD suggests: If you choose to stop for pictures, pull over to the right. Park completely off the roadway and off of the shoulders. Do not stop on the roadway.
Do not walk or run across lanes of traffic ever, but especially not for a picture. Obey any signs that prohibit parking, and always signal before leaving or entering a roadway.
Don’t forget that snakes and ants are potential dangers that may be lurking. Do not stand or sit your children down without checking the area first.
No vacancies for Hutto Citizens University Applications are no longer being accepted for the free nine-week program that gives residents a behind-the-scenes look at city government. The positions filled quickly with people eager to gain a better understanding of how the city works.
“The City of Hutto is thrilled to re-introduce Hutto Citizens University (HCU). After an extended hiatus, staff is eager to connect with residents and teach them about the processes and structure within our city government,” according to a city statement.
The purpose of the program is to help residents understand how municipal government functions and how communities are developed. In turn, the city hopes this will encourage more people to be interested in serving on city boards and commissions.
