BURNET – The Taylor Lady Ducks track team showed their speed and endurance this past weekend on the road. The Lady Ducks traveled to Burnet to compete in the Burnet Bulldog Relays, where they had a chance to show off their talents.

The Lady Ducks finished in eighth place as a team, and head coach Shelli Cobb was very pleased with how her team performed.

“It was a very windy day in Burnet. Our athletes battled through and produced several PR’s (personal records),” Cobb said.

The Lady Ducks started with the 100-meter hurdles, where Emma Whitsel continued to shine. Whitsel finished the race in 15.88 seconds for a secondplace finish.

A strong start for the Lady Ducks, which was followed by the 100. Azalie Balusek placed seventh with a very strong run of 13.19 seconds.

Next was the 400 and the 300, where Zakaya Frederick and Tessa Kopekcy were in the starting blocks respectively. Frederick came out strong in another close race where she finished with a time of 65.9 seconds for a sixthplace finish.

Kopekcy came in fourth in her race finishing in 52.47 seconds to help her team remain in the top 10.

The 200 was the final event for the Lady Ducks, where Whitsel and Balusek were back in action. Whitsel added another second-place finish to her resume with a time of 26.45 seconds.

Balusek was not too far behind Whitsel, finishing a second behind in 27.85 seconds for seventh place.

Camryn Nunamaker competed in the shot put and discus for the Lady Ducks, while Kopecky would give the long jump a go. Nunamaker finished in fifth place in shot put and sixth in discus, throwing 30 feet-seven inches and 81 feet-11 inches respectively.

Then Kopekcy would take fifth place, jumping 14 ½ feet.

“We still have a lot of work to do, but I am confident in these young ladies will take care of business and do a great job in their qualifying meets,” Cobb said.

The Lady Ducks will be back in action on Thursday Match 30 when they travel to Lexington to compete in one last regular season relay before district.
