With basketball season in the books, it is time to announce the All CenTex East team for the girls in the area.

These athletes distinguished themselves not only as top players on their team, but, as top players in the area as well.

Starting off the team is the player from the Taylor Lady Ducks where four of their starting five were selected. Senior Aliyana Chavis, junior Ansley Reed and sophomores Sohpia Fisher and Kionayh Rivers were all selected to be a part of this team.

All four were crucial to the Lady Ducks’ success this season with Fisher being an elite passer, and Rivers being the best rebounder in the district. Coupled with a pair of players who know how to score the ball in Chavis and Reed, these four showed why everyone was wrong about the Lady Ducks.

For their efforts on the floor, Chavis and Rivers were named Glue Guy and Defensive MVP respectively.

Next up, the Granger Lady Lions senior Mattie Wilkie and sophomore Sofia Bernal made the team. Wilkie was the voice and leader of the Lady Lions and their massive wins streak at the end of the season to help send them to the playoffs, but it would not have happened without Bernal.

Bernal settled into her role as a catch and shoot winger for the Lady Lions as the season went along. Any time the Lady Lions knocked down a massive bucket, Bernal was usually the one putting the shot up, especially from threepoint range.

The Thrall Tigerettes offer the first set of freshmen on the team with Navaeh Irvin and Cynthia Walker, along with teammate sophomore Kasandra Jackson making the team. All three of these players were put in starting roles as young players for the Tigerettes, and met the challenge head on showing off their talents.

Irvin and Jackson were always in the mix on the offensive end scoring seemingly at will for the Tigerettes.

Walker settled into her passing roll nicely. The three, combined, helped the Tigerettes have a deep playoff run and look to go even further next season with these three in their lineup.

Moving down State Highway 79 to get Hutto, junior Alysa Baton was selected to the team to add to her list of accomplishments. Baton would reach a very big milestone for her career capturing her 1,000th point.

Jae Mathis, Caldwell, was easily the best scorer in the district thanks to amazing ability to dribble around any defender then finish at the basket and if she needed to she could shoot the threeball effective as anyone. Her scoring barrage this season helped her earn the Offensive MVP honor on the All CenTex team.

For La Grange seniors, Keslyn Davis and Camile Gonzalez, their true skill showed our in their three-game series against the Lady Ducks throughout the season. Both Davis and Gonzalez were more than willing to do whatever it took to come away with a win, and with their passionate fan base behind them they were able to lead their team to the playoffs.

Last but certainly not least, are the players from Elgin, Smithville and Cedar Creek.

Elgin had junior Jaylan Roberson, while Smithville had sophomore Jordyn Brown, and Cedar Creek was represented by senior Alexa McDonald. All three of these ladies earned their spots on this team through hard work and commitment to the team.

Their season took different paths, but the one constant was their ability to lead vocally as well as on the score sheet for their respective teams.
