TEMPLE – Consistent hitting and sound defense were the keys to victory for the Hutto Lady Hippos Tuesday, March 14, when they took on the Temple Wildcats.
The Lady Hippos came away with a 10-3 on the road, and it was also their first win in their district season.
The game started with Lady Hippos in a 3-1 hole after the first inning. In the second inning, the Lady Hippos found their groove and started their offensive onslaught.
Hutto would score three runs in the second inning to make it a 4-3 ball game at the bottom of the second. When their defense took the field again, they were on a mission to shut down the Wildcats offense.
They did exactly that with the Lady Hippos not giving up another run for the rest of the game. The fourth and fifth innings saw the Lady Hippos score two runs in each inning. Then score one run in each the sixth and seventh inning.
Leading the way for the Lady Hippos offense was Hailee Sanchez who had three RBIs and a double. Kyra Vaughns added another double to the Lady Hippos offensive stat line while Mia Sanchez added a triple later in the contest.
Sophomore Jayda Gallegos was on the mound the whole game for the Lady Hippos, only giving up four hits and three runs while striking a batter out. In addition to the great offensive game, the Lady Hippos’ defense only committed three errors throughout the game while also securing a double play.
The Lady Hippos hoped to continue their winning ways in district when they matched up with Copperas Cove Tuesday, March 21, at home, looking to secure their second win in their district season.
