Records made to be broken

Hello everyone and welcome back to the Huddle where today we will be discussing two of the most unbreakable records in sports and why they will be broken soon. Starting us off will be Wilt Chamberlin and his iconic single game record of 100-points in a game in the NBA.

Hello everyone and welcome back to the Huddle where today we will be discussing two of the most unbreakable records in sports and why they will be broken soon.

Starting us off will be Wilt Chamberlin and his iconic single game record of 100-points in a game in the NBA. For obvious reasons no one has come close to this record because in the 90s and early 2000s defense became more prominent in those times.

Flash forward to the present day and defense is still a prominent part of the game obviously but at the same time offense in the NBA has skyrocketed. The amount of players shooting the three now is insane but it is going to lead to magic real soon.

Damian Lillard has been of the closest in recent memory scoring 82 points in a game and for a moment we all thought, “maybe?” The way the offense in the NBA has completely changed the game has far as scoring effectively go is evident and because of that the next generation has already begun fine tuning their scoring ways to be even more efficient and effective.

Looking ahead to the future is something that I typically try to avoid but given that history could possibly be made soon by someone breaking Wilt’s single game point record I like to speculate a little. The way athletes have trained to be better than the past generations and alter the game is now the craziest thing in the world.

Athletes now train all year long and are always looking to find ways to fine tune their skills and really focus on what makes them a great player makes the aspect of someone chasing down and capturing the record.

Which brings us to our next record of Gretzky’s 2,857 points in his career. For perspective Jaromir Jagr played in the NHL until he was well into his 40s and finished his NHL career with only 1,921 points.

Jagr did spend some time playing overseas instead of the NHL but to say Jagr was going to score another thousand points if he played in the NHL instead of overseas is a bit of a stretch. And here’s the craziest part if you take away all of Gretzky’s goals he scored in his career he would still beat out Jagr on the all time points list.

Now that being said someone really soon is going to break Gretzky’s record and that person is Connor McDavid. in 558 games McDavid has scored 833 points and is only 26-years-old.

McDavid currently leads the NHL in goals with 58, assists with 78 and points with 136. To add perspective McDavid is on pace to score close to 70 goals and to be considered an elite goal scorer 30 goals is the mark.

So, McDavid is on his way to double the mark of what it means to be a goal scorer in the NHL. At only 26 years old McDavid is going to be in the mix for Gretzky’s crown very soon.
