THRALL – The Thrall Tigers defeated the Granger Lions in the first district meeting of the season on Friday, March 17, at Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers’ big third inning gave them just enough of an edge on the Lions to take an 11-6 win in the district matchup.

The game started with the Lions’ offense coming alive early as they scored three runs in the first inning. Nate Tucker and Tripp Wilkie played a big art in the Lions jumping out to an early lead as both players would hit triples in the contest.

Joining his teammates in the hit parade, Travis Buton added a double to the Lions’ offensive stat line. The Tigers would quickly respond with two runs of their own, putting the score at 3-2 heading into the second inning.

The Lions would add another run to their score, making it 4-2 before the Tigers went back on offense. Granger held Thrall scoreless in the second, which is a favor the Tigers returned in the top of the third.

Sitting with a 4-2 lead, the Lions took the field for their turn on defense while the Tigers were cooking up an offensive rally. Thrall would explode offensively in the third quarter, scoring four runs and taking the lead for the first time in the game.

With a 6-4 lead, the Tigers would give up another run in the fourth to make it a 6-5 ball game heading into the bottom of the inning. The Tigers continued their offensive rally as they added two more runs to their lead to further distance themselves on the scoreboard.

The fifth saw the Tigers defense hold the Lions scoreless, while the Tigers offense would add two more runs to their lead. With the score sitting at 10-5, in the sixth inning each team added a run to their totals before the Tigers closed out the game in the seventh.

With the win under their belt the Tigers set their sights on their game with Chilton Saturday, Apr. 1, while the Lions focused on their game with Milano Tuesday, Mar. 21.
