What hockey didn’t need

Hello everyone and welcome back to the Huddle, today we will be discussing how the Boston Bruins committed a massive blunder this season.

To add some context the Bruins are a professional hockey team in the NHL and are even one of the original six teams in the NHL. Like all professional teams they have a list of prospects that they would love to have under contract.

Unfortunately for the Bruins, one of those prospects happened to be Mitchell Miller. To add even more context, reports came out that revealed Miller as a bully having allegations of wiping a push pop in a urinal and making his victim eat it.

That, among other horrible and racist acts, was proven to be true and Miller was then blacklisted from the NHL for good reason. The Bruins then decided to take a very old school way of thinking and thought enough time had passed and the Miller situation was “swept under the

rug”.

Thankfully, hockey fans held the Bruins accountable, and they quickly rescinded the contract offer to Miller and offered an apology not just to fans but to the victim and his family. This would still be a massive stain in the Bruins organization and fans have not forgotten what they have done.

As I said earlier, the Bruins are one of the original teams in the NHL, so they are one of the most historic and oldest franchises in the league. To make things worse for the Bruins, when issuing their apology, they stated they found no misconduct when vetting Miller.

One of the people participating in the vetting process of Miller was Team President Cam Neely, who is one of the most iconic players in NHL history. Neely worked his tail off to make the game he loved entertaining, exciting and fun for everyone involved.

Instead, Neely tarnished his legacy somewhat by not finding any misconduct in Miller’s behavior.

I don’t know if they just did not look well enough or just blatantly ignored the situation is unknown, but either way it’s not a great look. The Bruins are currently in first place in the league with an outstanding 48-8-5 record through 61 games this season.

On top of that, the Bruins are currently coached by Jim Montgomery, who just returned to hockey after a stay in rehab for alcohol abuse. So, the Bruins are having one of the best seasons in recent memory and are setting themselves up to be the favorite to win the Stanley Cup later this spring.

But the only thing people are going to remember is the giant stain of trying to sign a player who was racist, a bully and downright tortured another student while in high school. Miller has since been trying to better himself to try to make amends and continue his hockey career, but it does not seem likely again for good reason.

After the things he has done, he should never be allowed to make millions playing in the best hockey league in the world, and this should serve as a reminder to all of us that we should always, always, ALWAYS chose love and not hate.
