No racial issues found with police

There were no complaints of racial profiling made against the Taylor Police Department in 2021. On Thursday, Feb.

There were no complaints of racial profiling made against the Taylor Police Department in 2021.

On Thursday, Feb. 10, Chief Henry Fluck reported on the lack of complaints and other details during the Taylor City Council meeting. The police department annually presents a racial profiling report to the council.

“This report is required by law by statute and is required every year,” said Fluck. “I need to present a report to Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and also the local governing body.”

The council received three reports, which are also available in the published agenda packet on the city’s website. Information includes stats on all traffic stops that resulted in citations, arrest or warnings.

“Last year, the Taylor Police Department did not receive any reports or complaints of racial profiling,” said Fluck. “The number and percentage of traffic stops are consistent with the racial and ethnic demographics as measured in Taylor by the 2020 preliminary Census. After conducting this review of all the stops, all the arrests, all the searches, there is no indication that racial profiling has occurred within the Taylor Police Department.”

In the past five years, there have been two complaints of racial profiling against Taylor police. In 2018, a complaint was withdrawn after the accuser reviewed video of the incident and concluded that professional behavior prevailed. Although a 2020 complaint of another incident found unprofessional behavior, racial profiling was determined not to be a factor.
