The Taylor Ducks varsity soccer team continued their dominant run picking up their eighth win in the district and their 13th in a row. Los Patos are now ranked seventh in the state according to the UIL state coaches’ rankings.

The Ducks defeated the Smithville Tigers 7-0 on Friday, Feb. 24, to extend their winning streak.

“I would give them an A for their performance without getting too nitpicky,” Ducks head soccer coach Zach Gibson said. “They played well for it being cold, but they know what we want to achieve, and they have been executing.”

The Ducks started the game showcasing their speed and ball movement to catch the Tigers on their heels. Taylor took advantage and put some quick goals on the board.

The Ducks defense then took control of the game as the Tigers began to push back. The Ducks defense answered the bell and carried a 4-0 lead into halftime.

Heading into the second half, the Ducks continued their offensive onslaught while ramping up their defensive play to the point that the Tigers did not get a shot on the goal.

The Ducks added three more goals to their lead before the final buzzer where they claimed their victory.

“Like I said, we know what our goal is, and we know that as we get deeper into the season wins are going to harder to get,” Gibson said. “Yes, we won 7-0, but we have a few things to clean up and make sure we are getting better at each and every day.”

With the winning streak at 13 games for the Ducks it can be difficult for a team to stay focused on the task at hand. But Gibson said it is easy to keep this group focused.

“They have been playing together since they were kids, and they want to win a state championship,” Gibson said. “They know what they have to do to get there.”

The Ducks will be lacing up their cleats again Tuesday, Feb. 28, when they take on the Giddings Buffaloes at the Duck Pond looking to extend their winning streak.
