Kids of all ages will soon get a chance to march, play and sing to the beat of their own drum. This weekend, the city of Taylor’s Parks and Recreation Department and Good Life Taylor will host a free ribbon cutting ceremony for the recently completed Percussion Park at 10 a.m.

Saturday, Feb. 18, featuring a performance from Soulshine Rhythm Experience as well as refreshments.

The playground, which is located in Murphy Park between the lake and the swimming pool, is created in the shape of a musical treble clef and features a variety of music emitting playground pieces.

“The idea was to create a vibrant, creative, musical space within the city’s parks system where people of all ages can gather, create music and enjoy the outdoors,” according to organizers.

The concept for Percussion Park was originally brought to the city by Good Life Taylor, an organization founded in 2012 to promote healthy families and outdoor activities.

The project was funded in part by a grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Local Park Grant Program that was approved by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission in August 2020. Additional funds were provided through donations raised by Good Life Taylor and a portion of the Taylor 2018 bond fund.

This event is free and open to the public. Call 512-309-6266 for more information.
