Art Off Center offering beginner clay class

Interesting in beginning an art journey in clay? Then try Art Off Center’s Sunday Wheel Throwing and Hand Building class with instructor Tina Lewis. This is six-week session, beginning March 26, covers the skills of wheel throwing on the pottery wheel and hand building techniques.

Interesting in beginning an art journey in clay? Then try Art Off Center’s Sunday Wheel Throwing and Hand Building class with instructor Tina Lewis.

This is six-week session, beginning March 26, covers the skills of wheel throwing on the pottery wheel and hand building techniques. Beginners will complete a mug, bowl and plate form, covering the basics of wedging, centering, forming cylinders, trimming, pulling handles, surface development and glazing techniques.

By the end of the session, participants will have a good understanding of basic clay techniques that can be combined or used independently of each other.

Those with previous experience will work on larger forms, throwing off the hump, textures on the wheel or work on independent projects with guidance.

Decorating with underglazes, stamps and various decorative techniques will also be covered.

The class fee includes instruction, clay, tools, all firings, and use of studio glazes. There is a 25lb limit on clay for class and Open Studio practice times, overages will be charged at current studio firing services rates.

Depending on experience, students will complete six to 10 plus finished pieces during the session.
