THRALL – During halftime of Monday night’s game between the Thrall Tigerettes and Milano Lady Eagles, Thrall High School honored the 1992-1993 Tigerettes basketball team, who advanced to the state semifinals.

The Tigerettes went 31-6 that year, and posted a 9-1 record in District 49-1A play.

Thrall’s march to the state semifinals was not an easy one. They finished the regular season as district runners-up behind Granger, but they were poised for something special.

Thrall opened the playoffs with a hardfought 68-64 win over the Dawson Lady Bulldogs, before rolling over North Zulch and Port Aransas to reach a spot in the regional championship game.

The Tigerettes thumped Chilton 70-45 to claim the regional title and advance to the state tournament at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin.

A stout defense by Muenster brought the Tigerettes’ season to an end, 44-31 in the state semifinals, but the Tigerettes had set a new standard, by which all future Thrall basketball teams would be measured.

“There are so many memories from that season,” wrote Coach Lloyd Morgan, in a letter addressed to the team and presented at the ceremony. “Each one of you contributed something special to this team. That is what made this a very special group.”

Several members of arguably the most successful Tigerettes basketball team in school history were present for the brief ceremony.

Among the honorees present were: Donna Hejl Baldwin, Monica Schroeder Bowman, Melissa Hines Crabb, Nikki Reiger Leschber, Jenny Bartz Leschber, Tracy Coulter Irvin, and manager Lauren LoLo Roberson. Other members of the team include Carol Yanez Vela, Michele Rhoades, Tina Pyle Wilkerson, Yolanda Spence, and managers Jennifer Ritchey and Amber Pick Stephens.
