SOCCER MINI PITCH COMING THIS SPRING At the Jan. 26 meeting, Taylor City Council members voted to approve a resolution for the city to apply for a grant through the United States Soccer Foundation that will bring a mini pitch –- a small, illuminated, customized hardcourt space for individual and pickup soccer games – to Murphy Park this April.

At the meeting, city leaders heard more about the $105,000 project, which will be 80 percent funded from outside sources, including the foundation, Soccer Assist, 4ATX, and the St.

David’s Foundation, and 20 percent from the park’s general fund for master plan projects for this fiscal year. According to Parks and Recreation Director Tyler Bybee, the

project will involve repurposing one of the two basketball courts in Murphy Park and installing a 50 by 84-foot court with Musco lighting, that can be used not only for the pickup games, but also to illuminate one of the adjacent basketball courts in the near future, Bybee said.

PATSCHKE TAPPED FOR ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF TAYLOR ISD A veteran administrator and former teacher with nearly three decades of history in Taylor Independent School District has been promoted to assistant superintendent.

At the Jan. 23 meeting, the Taylor ISD trustees unanimously approved Jennifer Patschke to Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Federal Programs with a salary of $111,000.

Patschke, who began her career with the district as a third-grade teacher at T.H. Johnson Elementary School and

moved up the ranks to assistant principal and then principal at Pasemann Elementary School before moving to the central office, said this new position was a dream come true.

Most recently, Patschke served as the director of elementary schools and federal programs, overseeing T.H. Johnson Elementary, Naomi Pasemann Elementary and Main Street Intermediate schools.

In addition, Patschke was responsible for evaluating all federal legislation, projects and programs for grant entitlement.

In her current role, Patschke is taking over many of the duties of Tiffany Whitsel, the former assistant superintendent of organizational management, who left the district in November for personal reasons.

Patschke said her position will have a focus on recruiting and retaining more teachers to the district during this period of growth.
