Starting next fall, big changes are approved for Taylor Independent School District elementary schools— and officials are seeking parents’ input.
At 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, Taylor Independent School District will host a town hall meeting at its event center, 3101 N Main St, Ste 104, for parents to learn about next year’s attendance zones for elementary schools and give feedback.
“This has been talked about for decades,” said Superintendent Devin Padavil. “And our school board approved the recommendation that we turn our stacked elementary schools into Grades 1 through 5 elementary schools, leaving TH Johnson (Elementary School) as a PreK through (Kindergarten) campus.”
Padavil said the focus of the meeting is to begin the work of determining what streets go to what school.
“Our priority in that whole process is to make sure that the schools are equitable,” Padavil said. “(That they are) demographically balanced, so no matter what school you go to, it feels like Taylor … We don’t want one school to feel like it’s all new neighborhood kids only (for example).
