Martha Alderete Barrera “Nani” went to her heavenly home Jan.

5, 2023, to be with her husband Elias Barrera who preceded her in death in 1977. Martha was born July 29, 1939, to Bentura and Andrea Alderete in Beaukiss.

Nani lived a humble, giving, loving life. If wealth was measured by family, she was rich beyond measure. To her family, she was their world and she loved seeing them walk up to her screen door. Their love for each other was unconditional. She cared for, devoted time to and fed everyone that came into her home. She will always be known as a great cook and for her wonderful tamales.

She was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and great grandmother.

Whether for an employer in her younger years or for herself later in life, she always found a way to provide. She had a strength that endured till her last breath here on earth.

Her smile was contagious, behind it was usually a story that brought you laughter even on a bad day. There was a calming effect in her smile, a warmth in her embrace, and her eyes let you know you meant everything to her. That all is now being shared with her husband Elias, who’s waited patiently for their reunion in Heaven.

Nani was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Alfonso and Prajedes Barrera; brother, Joe Alderete; sisters-in-law, Jovita, Beatrice, Betty, and Tina Alderete, Esther Guerrero and Eva Munoz; brothers-in-law, Joe and Paul Barrera and Pete Guerrero.

She is survived by her children, Hilda Valverde (David), Judy Balderas (Louis), and Edward Lee Barrera (Becky); grandchildren, David Lee Valverde (Rosalba), Jacob Valverde (Erica), Joel Valverde, Crystal Bagot (William), Hilary Axtell (Brennan), Robert Balderas (Kaeri), Elijah Balderas, Jackie Coffman (Joel), Edward Lee Barrera Jr. (Rachel), Julian and Nick Barrera; great grandchildren, Aiden, Catalina, and Valens Valverde, June Coffman, Adalynn and Kimberly Bagot; brothers, Domingo, Jessie, and Samuel Alderete, Thomas Alderete (Lydia), Daniel Alderete (Martha), and Josue Alderete (Josie); sisters, Teresa Vega (Eddie) and Emma Almazan (Antolin); and sister-in-laws, Elizabeth Oswald (Bob) and Lillian Rystrand (Eno). Martha is also survived by a host of family and friends.

A visitation for Martha was held Friday, Jan. 13, from 5 to 8 p.m., at The Bridge Church, 747 County Road 138 in Hutto. Her funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 14, at 10 a.m. at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive in Georgetown, with a private burial to follow.
