HUTTO -- Hutto residents interested in helping guide the city or school district through a period of historic growth should note now through Feb. 17 on their calendars. That’s the window for filing an application to run for office in the May 6, 2023 elections.

Hutto City Council has three positions to fill: Council Place 1, currently held by Robin Sutton; Council Place 4 held by Peter Gordon; and Council Place 5 which was held by Krystal Kinsey, who is moving from the district.

Hutto Independent School District has two seats available for candidates. Those are currently held by Felix Chavez and Shara Turner.

In order to take office, the candidate must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years old, have not been deemed mentally incompetent by a court or convicted of a felony, and have been a resident of Texas for 12 months among other rules. City council and Hutto ISD each have additional residence requirements. The full list can be accessed online or at the administration building.

Hutto city council and Hutto ISD’s board members are elected at large. This means each board member or trustee represents the entire community or school district.

City council members receive a salary based on meeting attendance. School board trustees serve without compensation.

To run for city council, residents may pick up an application packet at the city clerk’s office at 500 W. Live Oak Street. The packet should also be available online soon at www.huttotx.gov.

To run for the school board, residents can download a packet at hipponation. org/board or visit the Hutto ISD Administration building at 200 College Street.
