MANOR – The Lady Ducks keep their hot streak alive after a win on the road Friday night.

On Friday, Jan. 20, the Lady Ducks pick up their fifth win in a row against the Manor New Tech Lady Titans.

Taylor defeated Manor New Tech 64-16 to improve their district record to 7-1 and put themselves within striking distance of taking first place.

The Lady Ducks, who started the season 3-13, are putting wins together at the right time in district play. They started the game putting points on the board and jumping out to an early lead.

The Lady Ducks bench players were able to keep the starters momentum going, especially on the defensive end of the floor. At the beginning of the season, Lady Ducks head coach Lawrence Bailey said his team was going to be scary on defense and was very proud to how his team started to where they are now.

Against the Lady Titans, the Lady Ducks defense was a bright spot yet again in a game forcing several turnovers leading to points on the offensive end. The Lady Ducks also limited the Lady Titans second chance scoring opportunities by dominating the paint on the defensive end and hauling in 19 defensive rebounds.

The Lady Ducks were able to hold on to this momentum until the final buzzer.

Bailey was able to sub in his bench players earlier than expected, and gave them some experience before playoff basketball starts. Bailey said it is always a blessing to come out of games healthy and whenever his young bench players can get some minutes in important games he feels just as lucky.

Bailey pulled his starters off the court after building a sizeable lead. Bailey said he had to calm them down because they were itching to go back into the game. He told his group being healthy and leaving with a win is more important than running the score up at this point in the season and they understood.

The Lady Ducks were led by Zakaya Frederick who had a season high 19 points along with three steals. Ansley Reed followed with 16 points, three rebounds and two assists. Kionayh Rivers tossed in nine and grabbed seven rebounds.

The Lady Ducks are currently in second place in the district with a matchup against La Grange Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Duck Pond with a chance to slide into first place on the line.
