It’s election season again.
A number of seats on the city councils and school boards in the area are expiring this May. The filing period is open from now until Feb. 17 for those interested in having their names included on the ballots.
Early voting will be held from Monday, April 24 to Tuesday, May 2, with election day being held Saturday, May 6.
Taylor
In Taylor, the atlarge seat on the City Council is expiring. So far, only incumbent Dwayne Ariola has filed paperwork to run for another term, according to city officials.
Ariola, a graduate of Taylor High School and a 20-year submarine veteran, is the director of technical services for CAI, a pharmaceutical engineering firm. In the community, Ariola has served as a mentor for Taylor Middle School, as vice commander of American Legion Post 39, the co-chair for Citizens for Taylor Political Action Committee for the Taylor Independent School District bond, among many other endeavors.
For the Taylor Independent School District board, at-large trustee Jim Buzan and Place 1 trustee Shorty Mitchell’s seats are set to expire. So far, only Mitchell has filed the paperwork to run again, according to Taylor ISD officials.
Mitchell, who has been the auto glass sales manager for Floyd’s Glass Company for 32 years, is running for his seventh term on the board. In addition, Mitchell, the 2010 Rotary Club Citizen of the Year, serves as the chair of the Dr. Marth Luther King Day March and Celebration committee and was the president Youth Pop Warner Football and Cheerleader Association program for 23 years, among numerous other endeavors.
Granger
For the Granger Independent School District, three seats are up for grabs, including Board President Daryl Stefek’s, Board Secretary Sandra Carpenter’s and Peter Reese’s. So far, only Reese has refiled his paperwork to run again, according to Granger ISD.
Thrall
In Thrall, Anja Martin and Mayor Troy Marks’ seats are both up for grabs. So far, no one has filed to run for those seats, according to city officials.
For the Thrall Independent School District, Board President Bryan Holubeck, and Wesley Grisham’s terms are expiring. Holubeck, who is running for his fifth term, has submitted an application to run, per ISD officials.
Coupland In Coupland, no seats are up for grabs for this election season.
For the Coupland Independent School District board, no seats are open for the upcoming election.
Hutto
In Hutto, Seat 1, held by Robin Sutton, Seat 4, held by Peter Gordon, and Seat 5, which is an unexpired term held by Krystal Kinsey, are all up for grabs. Nobody has filed yet to run, per the city.
In the Hutto Independent School District, two at-large seats are up for grabs, which are currently held by Felix Chavez and Shara Turner. So far, no one has filed yet, according to Hutto ISD.
