Road improvements continue apace near the new Samsung Austin Semiconductor site.
On Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023, Williamson County Precinct 4 Commissioner Russ Boles was joined by the Texas Department of Transportation, Samsung and City of Taylor officials for a groundbreaking ceremony for the $4.6 million improvement project at CR 404 and FM 973.
“This is a very exciting project. It’s going to allow us to create a wider, safer road for neighbors in the area and will help traffic get in and out of the Samsung site,” Boles said. “Anytime we can get a project started, we’re that much closer to finishing it. That means people can get to work and school faster, and it improves the overall quality of life.”
The project will allow 404 to be widened to four lanes, and 973 to three lanes, including one lane in each direction, with a center turn lane and dedicated right-turn lanes to the Samsung facility driveways.
In addition, traffic signals at the intersections of 404 and 973 and at 973 and Samsung Highway are included in the plans for when the traffic warrants it.
The design engineer for this project is HNTB, and the contractor is Jordan Foster. Construction of the project is funded through the voter-approved 2019 Road Bond for $4,622,143.93 and with funding from Samsung.
