GRANGER – The Granger Lady Lions defended home court as they defeated the Holland Hornets 48-29 last Friday night for their second win in district play. After battling through a lot of frustration throughout the season, the Lady Lions dominated the Hornets from the opening tip off to secure their victory.

Sofia Bernal made her presence felt from behind the arch by knocking down a threepointer in the lady Lions first offensive possession of the game. Bernal set the tone for her team because shortly after, Mattie Wilkie came up with a steal for a fast break and a 5-0 lead for the Lady Lions.

The Lady Lions would continue this trend as the game went along and built a comfortable lead. The Lady Lions would go on to outscore the Hornets 10-3 to have 15-3 lead right before halftime.

The Lady Lions would then have back-to-back offensive possessions that would help extend their lead. Marissa Hall grabbed a steal that led to a fast break followed by another steal and another three-pointer by Bernal.

With a sizeable lead at halftime, the Lady Lions knew the Hornets would come into the second half with a chip on their shoulder looking to respond on the scoreboard. Granger did not budge, and continued to put points up in the second half.

Montana Moore put the cherry on top of the Lady Lions’ win Friday night as she was the beneficiary of a steal leading to a fast break and another two points. Late in the fourth quarter, the Lady Lions held a 39-26 lead, and Moore’s extra two points sealed the victory for her team.

The Lady Lions have a chance to build on their momentum and new found confidence with back-to-back home games Friday, Jan. 20, against Milano, and Tuesday, Jan. 24, against Thrall.
